It’s always good to know what we are truly celebrating so here’s food for thought while we twirl our sparklers!
I feel Miriam Webster
is probably one of the most influential, and invisible, individuals of the current English speaking world. I often take a journey through the dictionary, and see where it leads, to relearn what I think I know. 🙂
Independence Day : a civil holiday for the celebration of the anniversary of the beginnings of national independence ; specifically : July 4 observed as a legal holiday in the United States in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776
dependence: 1: the quality or state of being dependent ; especially : the quality or state of being influenced or determined by or subject to another 2: reliance, trust 3: one that is relied on 4 a: drug addiction <developed a dependence on painkillers> b: habituation 2b
Then there’s: independent , self-governing, dependent, and free
That 4 letter word at the end is a real doozie!! Celebrate!
